I "met" (phone calls and text) Markham in relation to participating in an 11-day plant dieta retreat at the Marosa Healing Center in Peru. From the moment I contacted him, he has always been willing to focus his time and attention on whatever needs arose in me. Each interaction with him has been filled with camaraderie, education, stories of his personal experience, and a shared willingness to delve into the deeper meanings of experience and its relationship to our everyday lives. I found his counsel particularly useful when I returned home from the retreat and needed context in which to understand my experience. He spent two hours on the phone with me until all my questions had been answered. The conversation resulted in my having a mind-set that created space for meaning to keep arising from my dieta, as the days turn into weeks and months.
